This post is definitely bittersweet to be writing…but I feel so much peace about this decision. This may come as a surprise to quite a few of you…but bear with me here. Sometimes making tough decisions for your business is really challenging. Can I just be honest and say that being a small business owner in itself is SO hard! It’s the most rewarding work I’ve ever experienced but comes with its own set of challenges.
Earlier this year I made the decision to end my lease at my store front studio in downtown Brighton. This will be my last month doing sessions there. It has been such a bittersweet process, but I know there are good things in store and I’m so thankful for that! I have done some serious contemplating, thinking, wondering and prioritizing. While I always have my head in the clouds, dreaming and planning, this feels different. It feels like if there is ever a time to make changes and do all of the things I’ve wanted to do, now would be a great time to get going, after all, I will be 30 this year! 🙂
For the sake of transparency, I will give you all a little breakdown of what contributed to my decision. Over the past year or more, my business has gone through some changes. I have been loving less props in my images and leaning more and more towards timeless, fresh, yet simple images. More babies and less “stuff.” With that being said, I have been doing less and less studio sessions and the monthly investment no longer makes sense for my business. I will be focusing on family sessions, maternity sessions, weddings and newborn lifestyle sessions like this one. I will still have access to a studio that I can rent hourly for my clients newborn sessions and have kept some props, so no worries if you are wanting a “posed” newborn session. A huge thank you to every person who has supported my business and me. I’m grateful to every single client who has walked through my studio doors for a beautiful session with me. I am truly blessed to have enjoyed this space as long as I have. While I do wish it could be longer, I also can’t help but feel true excitement about the future and everything in store
Whew, that was big news! So what’s the added adventure that’s even more big news? I have been working hard the past couple of months behind the scenes on getting my real estate license and will officially be licensed by August and couldn’t be more excited! I have always LOVED houses and interior design since I was a kid and can’t wait to start on this journey in addition to my photography! I will keep you all posted in the next month or so with more information on that and would LOVE to be considered as your real estate agent as well as photographer!
Life is too short to not follow your dreams, and have fun along the way!
